Cambrian appoints Leighton Andrews to chair Strategic Advisory Board.

Cambrian United and The Cambrian Village Trust have announced that Professor Leighton Andrews of Cardiff University’s Business School will take over as chair of their Strategic Advisory Board on a voluntary basis.

Professor Andrews, who recently relinquished the role of Chair of the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation after eight years, is a former Welsh Government Minister and was Assembly Member for the Rhondda 2003-2016.

Professor Andrews will immediately lead a process to recruit other new members to the Strategic Advisory Board.

Professor Andrews said ‘I have known the work of the Cambrian Village Trust and the football team now known as Cambrian United for over twenty years. What they have achieved in developing facilities, services and activities for the local community in Clydach Vale has been transformative. They have great plans for future developments including their second hydroelectric roject, a new community, health, educational and heritage hub, and the football club, currently top of the table in JD Cymru South, aspires to join the JD Cymru Premier League.’

The purpose of the Strategic Advisory Board is:

  • To provide strategic direction and expert opinion to guide the progress of Cambrian Trust and its operating units
  • To provide an appropriate level of test and challenge to the overall strategic performance of Cambrian in accordance with its stated vision and strategic objectives 
  • To advise Cambrian executive officers on the evolution of the organisation’s future trajectory and strategic ambitions
  • To provide advice and an appropriate level of oversight to Cambrian’s board that it has a fit for purpose high level governance framework, and that is delivering against its strategic commitments, corporate/financial/social responsibilities and other legislative/statutory obligations
  • To support Cambrian in its endeavors to raise its profile with influential and like-minded stakeholders and partners
  • To act as powerful and positive advocates for Cambrian in their engagement with partner organisations, stakeholders and Cambrian members, volunteers and staff.
